González: "We are ready to compete"
The coach sets his sights on the midweek fixture against Valencia CF
A midweek matchday in LaLiga means three games in seven days for RCD Espanyol. After their Saturday defeat to Real Madrid, Valencia and Girona are up next, with only one recovery training session and another preparation session between each game.
Coach Manolo González talked on Monday about the challenge posed, and accepted that “it's time to assess the players' condition and we'll make a final decision between today and tomorrow as to who plays."
"Going up against Valencia CF will be very difficult, extremely tough, and tricky. In these five matchdays, they have played away at El Sadar against Osasuna and away against FC Barcelona. I expect a very well-organised side on all levels. We will try to adapt to Valencia and then Girona -because we are ready to compete."
The coach insisted that "we are in good condition physically and are mentally prepared to win, but all the results we see each matchday show how difficult it is to win. So far, we have had more wins than losses, and we will try to maintain that trend."
He asserted that he had analysed the last match "from a calm and objective perspective, trying to make sure it doesn't happen again, but putting everything in context."
“The fans never let us down, and we want to continue getting them used to winning, but to do that we have to work hard every game. Tomorrow we'll have to do things very well. We hope to compete at a good level and beat Valencia CF. We have to use our heads and take it step by step."
