González: "We are now a more identifiable team"
The coach looks at the upcoming derby against Girona
After their game against Villarreal last Monday was suspended due to the weather conditions, RCD Espanyol now face a derby a week later against Girona.
Coach Manolo González hopes that his players will once again show their best form in the game, and stated that it was "not a case of revenge but rather a rematch” after the heavy defeat they suffered in the first half of the season at Montilivi.
“We have to play our game and win to get closer to survival as soon as possible. We are now a more identifiable team, which has given us more stability and, from there, we have grown,” he commented.
“The favourites in a game are those who are higher up the table. It's very difficult to win games. I don't believe in favourites. We will have to play a good game to beat Girona and we are convinced that we can do that.”
"We can't depend on other teams. It is not always the same teams that are going to lose each week. You have to depend on yourself to save yourself."
On the opposition, he explained that “it will be a difficult match, due to the level of their players and their coach. They are a very well-organised team, with many variations, and it will be like a game of chess, with alternative options.”
“The fans will be fully behind us, as always, and I don't rule out that, in a few days' time, there will be more teams involved in the fight to get out of the relegation zone.”
Finally, González sent out his condolences to the family of Carlos Miñarro, the FC Barcelona doctor who died suddenly this Saturday.
