González: "Today we had to be practical"
The coach reviews the latest win against Getafe CF
Manolo González was highly satisfied with another victory in LaLiga for RCD Espanyol, as they beat Getafe on the road. The coach hailed his side's work at a tricky ground to visit, against tough opposition.
"Today's match was very difficult. Today we had to be practical, not let them create chances, and try to hit them on the counter-attack," he said in his post-match press conference.
"Against Sevilla, we won by creating a lot of attacking play, but they created chances against us too. I don't like winning like that. The team understood that. We have to attack like we did at the beginning of the game and defend with discipline. This ends up giving you a lot of points."
Regarding the four consecutive wins, he noted that "I feel very happy and proud of the team. Winning four games in a row is very difficult to do. It's difficult for the big teams, so imagine how hard it is for the rest of us. All of this is thanks to the players. Without hunger, without the desire to win or to compete, it's impossible to win at the Coliseum."
Finally, regarding the team's positive form, he stated that “I want us to continue in the same way. We have to compete well and keep picking up points. I don't understand football any other way. The day the team don't compete, we won't be Espanyol. We mustn't make mistakes or think we're something we're not, starting with myself. We have to maintain this level and compete with humility and hard work, and never give up on a single ball.”
