González: "The only downside was that we didn't convert our chances"
The coach looks back on the 0-0 draw with Girona FC
Manolo González was satisfied with the performance of his side in the Catalan derby against Girona FC, and told journalists in his post-match press conference that only a lack of effectiveness in front of goal meant RCD Espanyol went home with just a point.
"I leave here happy, because the team generated chances on goal. The only downside was that we didn’t convert them,” he explained.
"A lot of our shots went just wide. Both today and against Valencia in midweek, we played very well.”
The coach also stated that his team were in much better shape than on their last visit to Montilivi.
“We are more together than last year. We’re a more recognisable team. The players are the first to want to win. They don’t want to experience what they did last year again.”
Finally, when asked about injuries, he revealed that “Cabrera has a small injury and we didn’t want to risk him, but we will have him back against Betis. We have some very good centre backs, but unfortunately not all of them can play at the same time. It’s nice to look at the bench and see that the players want to play. I’m very proud of my team.”
