González: "It's a shame, because we came close to winning"
The coach reviews the loss to Real Betis
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González praised his team's effort against Real Betis and acknowledged that individual quality decided the match.
“Individual talent is everything. We knew who we were playing against. They had more chances and they're a team that threatens you; I saw that when they played against Girona. It's a shame, because we came close to winning. The individual quality in their two goals decided the match,” he explained in his post-match press conference.
“The team did a lot of things well. The first goal was avoidable, and the second was down to talent. We're struggling to kill off games. When I lose, I'm really down about it for two days. I don't like losing. You have to analyse things and look at the match with a cool head. There are things that need to be improved. Today we lost when competing on equal terms, like we did against Villarreal. We know that we can beat anyone. We're in good form and infinitely better than in the first half of the season,” he stated.
“We're aware of what our fight is, and we're seven points clear of the relegation zone. We've done things well. Until it's mathematically certain, you can't breathe easy, but the margin we have allows us to look down the table and not go crazy. We lost against Villarreal and Betis, but we knew that these things could happen. I like to see the team not giving up and competing until the end. Next Sunday will be a different game.”
