González: "It was a crazy and complicated game"
The coach highlights the team’s reaction against Celta Vigo
Manolo González's post-match press conference after RCD Espanyol were held to a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo saw him describe the contest as "crazy and complicated," with his team chasing the win throughout.
"We were good for the first 20 minutes. From then on, we started to misjudge our clearances and Celta Vigo found more space. We were better in the second half, but we need to recover the defensive solidity we had before. It's positive to have bounced back from defeats, even though we didn't get the victory in the end, and to have come back against a very good team."
In his analysis, the coach explained that, after halftime, "the substitutions gave us a boost. Football is down to the players. They gave us strength and we were able to turn the game around."
He also underlined that "when you have a bit of confidence, things go your way. We need to regain our composure and identity. We have to press, win our duels, run like beasts and defend with discipline. This is vital and it all comes down to mentality."
He added: “In order to regain confidence and form, we need to defend well. Structure and tactical discipline are key. We need to be competitive for longer periods of time.”
Finally, González stated that “I wanted to get the fans behind us and give the players a little push in the final stretch. I don't take it well when I lose; I never like to lose. And I also did it for the players, to help them regain that confidence.”
