González: "I'm annoyed that we didn't go through"

The coach gives an honest assessment of the Copa del Rey exit

In his post-match press conference following the defeat to Atlético Baleares, Manolo González was honest about his disappointment at RCD Espanyol's elimination from the Copa del Rey.

“I apologise to the members and fans. I must also congratulate Atlético Baleares for advancing to the next round. We weren't good and we threw away our Copa del Rey campaign. We went out there with first-team players, but we couldn't score or win the game. When we don't compete at our true level, these things happen,” he said.

“The team created very little today. We had a horrible game, but we have to pick ourselves back up. Tomorrow will be a tough day, but we need to get it together: we have another game on Sunday.”

The manager insisted that “this is a mess-up. I can't fool anyone. We came here to go through, and we didn't. I'm very angry about the match, because all these knockout rounds are very difficult and when you don't perform at your best, these things happen.”
