González: "Athletic Club will be as demanding as Real Madrid"
The coach previews the meeting with the Basque side
Next up for RCD Espanyol is a meeting with Athletic Club, and coach Manolo González spoke ahead of the game to praise the opposition players and coaching staff -as well as analysing his team's prospects.
"We have to continue competing at the level we are doing at home. Away from home the team have improved in our conviction, but we still have to improve our results. At home we are strong and convinced that we can beat anyone -and for that to happen, the support of the fans is essential," he argued.
The coach insists that this Sunday, the match "will be as demanding as the one against Real Madrid."
"It will be necessary, as it was then, to defend and attack very well. At home we have always been more solid and we have managed to compete better than we had been a few weeks ago. It will be a very demanding match and to face it we need the best version of the team and the coaching staff."
He talked up Athletic Club, saying that “when a team have gone so long without losing (14 consecutive league games) it speaks highly of the level of that squad and their coach. What we have to do is try to win and do things well.”
Finally, the coach also showed his total support for Daniela Caracas, after the incident she FC Barcelona's Mapi León last weekend in the women's derby.
“These are images that everyone has seen and they know what happened. Whatever decision she and the club make, we will fully support,” he concluded.
