González: “We lacked solidity throughout the entire match”
The coach reflects on the loss to Atletico Madrid
Speaking after the 4-2 loss to Atletico Madrid, RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González expressed his disappointment with the result.
“It was very difficult to come back from 3-1 down, but the team didn’t give up. We lacked solidity throughout the entire match. All the goals were defendable and avoidable. They were goals we gave away, and that’s a problem.”
The coach added that he is “confident that we will turn this around. The team are still alive and the players will push through. This has to be turned around through hard work, changing the dynamic as soon as possible. We knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park. This situation can be changed with personality and by being brave. Now we have to go to Elche and stop making mistakes that cost us dearly, because not even two goals away from home were enough today. We have to start keeping clean sheets again. It’s becoming a bit urgent now. But it’s not about the system; it's individual situations that are costing us.”
“The sooner we reach 42 points, the better. First, we want to secure survival, which will lift a weight off the team’s shoulders and allow them to play with more calmness.”
