González: “We have to regain our competitive edge”
The coach says that the team "weren’t ourselves” in the loss to Deportivo Alavés
Manolo González' press conference after RCD Espanyol's loss to Deportivo Alaves saw the coach offering up a critical assessment of the performance, and focusing on the details that defined the game.
“Several things went wrong. We defended poorly against the opposition's goalscoring opportunities. Our passing wasn't sharp either, although we took the lead and had chances in the second half, but we weren't able to capitalise on that. We need to analyse what we didn't do well and correct it urgently," he told journalists.
He emphasised the need for his side to regain a competitive edge and raise their game in key moments, stating that “Today we weren't ourselves. We need to get back to the competitive level we had in the first half of the season. We have to increase the intensity of our pressing and in duels, and avoid mistakes. We need to regain our confidence and composure.”
Looking ahead, González spoke of identity and hard work as keys to reversing the team's fortunes.
“We have to rediscover who we are. Winning in the Primera División is tough; we have to get back to our previous level, avoid mistakes, and regain our momentum. We will definitely bounce back. We won't allow our desire, hard work, or effort to let up. We have to get back our competitive edge.”
