Expósito: "Staying in LaLiga comes first, but we're not closing any doors"
The attacker gives his impressions of the upcoming season
Edu Expósito is one of the stalwarts of the RCD Espanyol dressing room, and also a natural influencer on the pitch. He is accepting of the challenge that lies ahead in LaLiga this season, which starts with top flight survival.
“Staying up is the main goal, because otherwise, we won't be able to do anything else. We have high standards and we'd all like to finish much higher this season. Therefore, staying in LaLiga comes first, but we're not closing any doors."
In his Thursday press conference, he added that the first step "is to win the first game this Sunday and then start picking up lots of points -especially at home, because that will give us a lot of life throughout the season."
He emphasised that "it is down to us, against any opponents. For example, last year we drew twice against Atletico Madrid and the feeling in those games was good. But everything now starts all over again, and we'll try to be strong at home from the start."
Taking on the role of captain is something that fills him with pride “because of everything the armband represents. It's something special, because of the number on it and the history that holds. It's a very important step up for me.”
Expósito concluded by saying that one of the virtues the team must have is “keeping a clean sheet. If we manage to keep the opposition from scoring for many minutes, we can hurt them. We're heading into this match in good shape.”
