Dmitrovic: "The break has been necessary"
The goalkeeper is fresh and raring to return against Sevilla FC
The international break has been an unusually intense time for Marko Dmitrović. The birth of his first daughter has kept the goalkeeper busy, and has given him plenty of cause to be cheerful.
The shot stopper will be back in action on Monday for RCD Espanyol, against his former club Sevilla FC.
Speaking to the media ahead of the contest, he commented that “We’re new to parenting, but we’re learning new things about life and we’re happy.”
“In the international break you miss the matches, but we know that this period is necessary to recharge, rest, and refresh your mind. Now we’re already looking forward to the next match.”
“We have a very clear idea that involves working our hardest every day. When we’re on a winning run, we want to maintain it for as long as possible, and when things aren’t going our way, we try to turn it around and keep picking up points.”
With the first third of the season over, Dmitrovic’s assessment of these past few months “is very positive. We have a good points cushion, but we can't get complacent. Every match is a different equation. We have to be prepared to keep getting points. Our advantage could be lost with a couple of bad results, so we have to get the three points in every game. The next game against Sevilla, and we're going there with the utmost motivation to claim the three points.”
“You have to overcome that adrenaline rush you get from a win, because you can't let your guard down. Nor can you let yourself be down for three days after a defeat. There will be losses and wins, and you have to live with that. The defeat against a Champions League-calibre side, in Villarreal, hurt us. We didn't have a good day either, but it should help us improve things, and I'm sure we'll have a good game on Monday.”
Regarding the game against Sevilla, he noted that they are “a very strong side who, in recent seasons, haven't achieved the results expected given the club's high standards. Both teams will go out from the start looking for the win. I hope the three points stay at the RCDE Stadium.”
