Calero: "I occasionaly look at the LaLiga table"
The defender urges maximum focus for the game against Getafe
On a run of wins in LaLiga, Espanyol face Getafe on Saturday night in the competition. Whilst their league form has been admirable, the players still have a thorn in their side about their Copa del Rey exit against Atletico Baleares a week ago.
“As our coach says: either we give 1000% or we can lose against anyone,” Fernando Calero says. “We all need to go all-out; we know that’s our calling card. We’re a united team both on and off the pitch, and that’s showing.”
The defender admits that he occasionally glances at the league table “and that makes you happy, it makes you glad to be there. It means you’re doing things very well, and we all want to keep doing that. After a victory, everyone is happier. Now we have to keep a cool head, remember where we’ve come from, the suffering we’ve endured, and enjoy the moment now. That’s how victories come, with positivity, and that’s how we’ll stay at the top.”
The whole squad remain focused on the fact that “our primary goal is to secure survival, and hopefully we can do that as soon as possible. From there, we need to keep winning and keep dreaming of finishing as high up the table as we can.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming schedule just before the Christmas break, Calero notes that “we have two very difficult games coming up, at very tough grounds, but we're performing better away from home this year. I'm optimistic and I think we can get some great results.”
