Cabrera: "We'll try to showcase our strengths"
The skipper talks before the game against Villarreal CF
Prepared for Saturday's match for RCD Espanyol against Villarreal, Leandro Cabrera spoke to the media ahead of the fixture and emphasised the challenges posed by the opposition. First of all, however, he took the opportunity to wish the club’s recently hospitalised Sporting Director well.
"I want to send a message to Fran Garagarza. I wish him a full and quick recovery, and hope that he'll be back with us soon. We also want to dedicate a victory to him this weekend,” he expressed.
The defender expects "a very difficult match against one of the best teams in LaLiga - because they excel in so many aspects of the game. We have the home advantage and our fans behind us. We feel very strong here and we'll try to showcase our strengths to get back to winning ways."
“One of the keys is that we stay focused on the game, not get discouraged, and try to capitalise on the opportunities we have. Lately, we've been very dominant and have been getting into the opposition's penalty area, but we need to tighten up our defence a bit," he warned.
He also highlighted the support that the team are receiving from the fans.
“I hope they come out for this game like they have been up until now. They have been -and continue to be- a driving force until the very last minute of each game. Every match is hard-fought, and we haven't given up in any of them. One of our greatest strengths is the support of our fans. Both they and we know that when we are all pulling in the same direction, we can win a lot.”
Finally, regarding the new charity campaign “Pericos Don’t Abandon,” an initiative that promotes adoption and collaboration with animal shelters, Cabrera stated that “I think it's an incredible initiative, and we hope it gets the visibility it deserves and that people are encouraged to adopt.”
