Manolo González assesses the win against Athletic Club, highlights the dressing room’s belief and the boost of a decisive RCDE Stadium

Espanyol claimed a hugely valuable victory against Athletic Club (2-0) in an afternoon of intensity, commitment and a strong connection with the crowd. After the match, Manolo González reflected on the win: “El vestidor està molt content. És una dosi d’energia bestial. Els estic molt content als jugadors, no tinc una paraula dolenta per a ells, amb més encert o menys, és d’agrair. Han cregut sempre en tot allò que fem.”

The coach also acknowledged the emotional weight of the match: “Aqusta segona volta és una situació que no es pot explicar, és molt fotuda. He sentit un alliberament molt gran. Però queda un pas més.” He added: “L’equip no s’ha caigut mai, avui ens hem tret una motxilla important i ens dona un plus per als dos partits que queden.”

One of the main protagonists of the afternoon was also the RCDE Stadium. Manolo González stressed the role of the fans and the confidence they transmit when the team needs an extra push: “L’ambient ha estat fantàstic i ha estat amb l’equip. L’afició és molt important, el públic porta a l’equip. Als jugadors els dona confiança, els dona la vida que empenyin com avui.”

Finally, the head coach already turned his focus to the next match: “A Pamplona no es pot especular, hem d’anar amb moral i ser valents per anar a per al partit”.
